Tell Me Why

I'm headed out to Brooklyn
Gotta find myself a job
And spend my nights,
working on a dream
Gotta find a new apartment
Some place I can't afford
and hope it isn't too far from the train
Tell me Why....
Did I....
Have to try?
Cause a song called to me,
and I'll answer faithfully
What if I don't get this chance again?
A year now has passed since
I've seen my father's house
I'm going home to welcome back the spring
I'm gonna walk through the garden
Play a song out on the porch
A week goes by and I'll be gone again.
Tell me Why....
Did I....
say goodbye?
Cause a song called to me,
and I'll answer faithfully
What if I don't get this chance again?
Yes it all comes to me,
and I accept it thankfully
Who knows if it's going to come again?
I've been getting fat here
on free drinks and dinners
Come the 5th, my rent is overdue
Tell me Why....
Did I....
Have to try?
Cause a song called to me,
and I'll answer faithfully
What if I don't get this chance again?

SHE SAID NO
VALERIE MIZE
Standing out in the parking lot the last night we ever met
asking why is he back again, why haven't you kicked him out yet?
I said, "Hey, I've got the solution; Why don't you come with me?"
She said, "That would only cause confusion, 'cause here's where I've gotta beeee"
I'd never pleaded with another person for anything before
I wanted to pull her in from the tide and bring her back to shore
I saw in her eyes she wanted to go. (Or maybe that was in mine)
I knew in my heart that when she said no, I was running out of time
I said, "Just get in the car
It's time to decide who you are
I can take you away from this mess,
All you've got to do is just say yes,
So, come on now, it's time for us to go..."
But she said no.
I ran out of words and just repeated myself,
knowing that she'd made her choice
I tried to keep the sound of desperation
from creeping into my voice
I gave her a hug,
I opened the door
knowing it was time for goodbye
It took everything that I had in me
not to look her in the eye
I thought, "Just get in the car
It's time to find out who you are
you can drive away from this girl
even though she changed your world
as I left I thought she will never know .."
'Cause she said no.
Just get in that car
the highway doesn't care who you are
You can drive away from this girl
even though she changed your world
and as I left I thought maybe someday she'll know, even though
she said no
Just get in the car
the highway doesn't care who you are
You can drive away from this girl
even though she changed your world
and as I left I thought she will never know
'Cause she said no

Downtown Train
by MIZE
Headed out alone again
Late night on a downtown train
You're out on the Frisco Bay
Silver moon and shades of gray
And I'm rocking back and forth,
Saying what am I here for
I wanted so much more
but I had to do it in my own way
I went East and you went West
We decided this was best
Put the whole thing to the test
Still in love, I must confess
that I'm rocking back and forth
Saying what am I here for
I wanted so much more
but I had to do it in my own way
Had to do this my own way
Had to do this
Now I'm navigating troubled waters
I am navigating troubled waters
I am navigating troubled waters
I am navigating troubled waters
And I am rocking back and forth
Saying what am I here for
I wanted so much more
but I had to do it in my own way
It'll push and pull you down,
but don't you dare back down
you know you need this now
Just gotta give it another day
Got to give this one more day
